This service is a service of darkness in which we remember the final “seven words” of Jesus on the cross and his final loving actions in winning our salvation. The church is progressively darkened and candles extinguished to recount Jesus’ crucifixion and death. But one light remains to remind us of the new life (Easter) that is to come.
